Ah, you've got Manga Studio Ex! I've got it too, but without a drawing tablet it's not as much use to me as I'd hoped.

Well I had a tablet once but it never worked for me.. I dreamt of a screen that was combined with a drawing board and Wacom finally delivered. :) Incidentally, since I've been drawing with this equipment I've seen a great improvement in my drawing when I sketch with the old fashioned pencil :)

I've just looked through your gallery and your inks are incredible. I love to ink but I am awful at portraying light and shadows (sigh...). I've put you on my watch so I could study your inks. (Also, I only use technical pens... I make a mess with brushes.... Though I know you can't make the same nice effects with tech pens.)

Thanks for the watch :)

Portraying light is not as difficult as you might think. Personally I use reference and have spent many years studying the techniques of others.

As for pens, technical pens can be a bit limiting, but its not impossible to get great work with them. Its just using different techniques. Perhaps you should give something like this a try [link]
I think I'd go that way if I were going back to conventional.

That may be a good idea. If I get good with those maybe someday I'll feel confident enough to 'graduate' to brushes. :)

I'll have to just begin studying light again. My problem is that I mostly ignored light and shadow while doing my art, instead focusing on the linework. Man, there are so many areas I need to study in still... (anatomy, color, etc etc...)

Lol well it never ends.. I'm constantly learning new stuff. And I hope I always will :)

Oh and copying can be a great learning experience too, though I don't get time for that these days I'm kinda copying when I'm inking. I've learnt an awful lot just working on Luis Puig's stuff! I know it will bleed over into my own stuff!
